Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking an Intake Specialist to manage referrals, verify benefits, and coordinate prior authorizations while maintaining compassionate patient communication.

This remote role allows you to work from anywhere in the U.S. and supports a robust benefits package, incentives, equity stock purchase options, and a 401k program.

You will process referrals, determine patient needs, and enter information into the database, delivering timely care access and service.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• 2+ years of experience in infusion therapy, specialty pharmacy, or a related healthcare service (e.g., benefit verification, prior authorization, or patient access).
• Proven experience working with healthcare insurance plans, including eligibility, coverage, and authorization processes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Demonstrated solid customer service and communication skills, with the ability to support patients, families, and referral partners in a professional and compassionate manner.
• Demonstrated attention to detail, organization, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote setting while adhering to productivity and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Processes referrals from sources and ensures timely intake processing.
• Assesses patient needs upon arrival and verifies benefits/eligibility for services.
• Responds to phone and fax inquiries and coordinates with referral sources.
• Obtains information required to process prior authorizations if applicable.
• Completes start of care paperwork and documents in patient files.
• Communicates financial responsibilities and potential need for financial assistance.
