UnitedHealth Group is seeking a SDS/Observations Medical Coder for a full-time role (40 hours/week). You can telecommute from anywhere in the U.S. while handling outpatient ambulatory observation coding with CPT/ICD-10 codes and adherence to coding guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current AHIMA or AAPC credential (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H).
• 2+ years outpatient facility coding experience.
• 2+ years of Same Day Surgery coding experience.
• 2+ years of ICD-10 experience.
• Windows experience with MS Excel and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify CPT and ICD-10 code assignments for outpatient Ambulatory Observation per guidelines.
• Apply coding knowledge to analyze/edit CCI Edits and Medical Necessity Edits.
• Understand Medicare Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) codes.
• Abstract additional data elements during chart review when coding.
• Maintain professional coding ethics per AAPC/AHIMA.
• Meet performance standards for coding quality and productivity.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians as needed.
• Stay updated on coding knowledge through QM Manager and Directors.
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events.
• Maintain a record of charts coded, held, or missing.
• Additional duties as identified by manager.
