UnitedHealth Group is seeking an SDS Observations Medical Coder for a full-time remote role (40 hours/week, Monday–Friday) with a $3,000 sign-on bonus for external applicants. The position emphasizes accurate CPT/ICD-10 coding for ambulatory observation and strict adherence to guidelines. Telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Credentials from AHIMA or AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H).
• 2+ years outpatient facility coding experience.
• 2+ years of Same Day Surgery coding experience.
• 2+ years ICD-10 experience.
• Proficiency with Windows, MS Excel and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Assign CPT and ICD-10 codes for outpatient Ambulatory Observation per guidelines.
• Review CCI Edits and Medical Necessity Edits.
• Understand APC codes for Medicare Ambulatory services.
• Abstract data during chart review when coding.
• Maintain ethical coding standards per AAPC/AHIMA.
• Meet productivity and quality targets per Optum360.
• Provide documentation feedback and query physicians as needed.
• Keep coding knowledge up to date with QM updates.
• Participate in department meetings and education events.
• Track coded charts and resolve held/missing records.
