Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking an SDS/Observations Medical Coder to join our team. This full-time role (40 hours/week) is remote within the United States, offering competitive hourly pay and benefits.

You will code outpatient Ambulatory Observation services, adhere to coding guidelines, and support QA and documentation processes. You will use CPT/ICD-10 coding, apply edits, understand APC codes, and maintain up-to-date knowledge with EMR systems and Excel.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED.
• Current coding credentials from AHIMA or AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H).
• 2+ years of outpatient facility coding experience.
• 2+ years of Same Day Surgery Coding.
• 2+ years of ICD-10 experience.
• Intermediate proficiency with Windows and MS Excel and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify CPT and ICD-10 Coding for outpatient Ambulatory Observation services following official guidelines and client guidelines.
• Apply coding knowledge to analyze/correct CCI Edits and Medical Necessity Edits.
• Understand Medicare Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) codes.
• Abstract additional data elements during chart review when coding, as needed.
• Maintain coding ethics per AAPC and/or AHIMA standards.
