Job summary
US Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking an Allied Health Professional to perform comprehensive medical coding and data abstraction. You will apply ICD, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines, ensure accurate documentation, and support the national VA database.
Remote, full-time position with responsibilities spanning outpatient and inpatient coding, data integrity, and compliance with VER A regulations. Demonstrated expertise in medical terminology and coding practices is essential for success in this
Qualifications
- Experience with ICD/CPT/HCPCS coding and documentation review.
- Familiarity with VER A program guidelines and federal health policies.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
- Ability to audit records, abstract data, and ensure complete coding.
- Comfortable working in a team and meeting deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Assigns codes to documented patient care encounters using ICD, CPT, HCPCS.
- Reviews health records to abstract data for national VA database.
- Ensures coding accuracy, ethical standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Trains or orients new staff on coding processes and E/M rules.
- Works with VERA guidelines for patient classification and resource use.
- Codes inpatient/outpatient procedures and links diagnoses to procedures.
