Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs seeks a MRT (Coder) Auditor to review and audit medical records for accurate coding using ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS. The role includes supporting documentation quality and providing coding guidance to staff.

Remote option may be available with potential relocation considerations per VA policy. Candidates must have CRITICAL experience in medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, and coding; and hold or be eligible for AHIMA or AAPC certifications.

Qualifications

• One year of creditable experience indicating knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, medical coding, and health records.
• Associates degree with HIT/HIM or related field and 12 semester hours in HIT/HIM.
• AHIMA or AAPC coding program completion leading to coding certification eligibility.
• Equivalents combining education and experience are acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Apply knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, disease processes, and coding guidelines to ensure proper code assignment.
• Review codes from ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS for accuracy and compliance.
• Audit coded data and support staff to improve coding quality and documentation.
• Provide coding guidance and develop reports to support data quality and reimbursement.
