Job summary

Qualifications

• One year of creditable experience in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, medical coding, and health records structure.
• Associate degree with 12+ semester hours in health information management OR AHIMA/AAPC coding program leading to certification eligibility.
• Certifications: AHIMA or AAPC coding certification or equivalent.
• Combination of experience and education allowed according to VA guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Assign codes for outpatient encounters using ICD, CPT, HCPCS.
• Ensure documentation supports diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstract data for VA national databases and registries.
• Provide guidance on coding standards and regulatory requirements.
