Qualifications

• Assigns codes to documented patient care encounters (outpatient and/or inpatient professional services).
• Applies advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, disease processes, and procedures to ensure proper code selection.
• Uses ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines to select appropriate codes.

Responsibilities

• Assign codes to outpatient encounters and verify accuracy.
• Apply ICD/CPT/HCPCS guidelines to ensure ethical, accurate coding.
• Abstract data from health records to support complete coding and data transmission.
• Ensure documentation supports diagnoses and procedures coded; provide coding accuracy review.
