Job summary

Pena4 is seeking a Medical Coder (OP) for a 100% remote, part-time role (~20 hours/week). The ideal candidate has at least five years of outpatient coding experience and holds AHIMA or AAPC credentials (CCS or CPC).

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years of HIM and outpatient facility coding experience
• AHIMA or AAPC certification (CCS or CPC)
• EMR experience preferred: Athena

Responsibilities

• Review outpatient records to determine principal and secondary diagnoses, procedures, and complications
• Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures
• Accurately sequence diagnoses and procedures
• Ensure documentation supports DRG/APC, SOI and ROM
• Collaborate with CDI, compliance, and billing teams to resolve coding issues
• Meet productivity and accuracy benchmarks (e.g., 95% DRG accuracy)
• Query providers for clarification when documentation is incomplete or unclear
