Job summary

Datavant is seeking an experienced outpatient coder to join our remote team. You will review records, assign diagnoses and procedures, and ensure accurate APC/diagnostic coding while maintaining high quality and productivity.

Ideal candidates bring AHIMA or AAPC credentials and at least 3 years of hospital coding experience, with proficiency in various coding specialties and strong communication skills for remote collaboration.

Qualifications

• AHIMA or AAPC credentials required (RHIA/RHIT/CCS or CPC/CPC-H/COC/CIC/CRC).
• 3+ years of hospital coding experience.
• Proficient in Same Day Surgery, Observation, Injections/Infusions, ED, and E/M leveling.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; adept at remote work and time management.
• Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records and assign accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Assign and sequence codes based on documentation.
• Determine appropriate discharge disposition.
• Abstract and enter coded data for hospital statistics and reporting.
• Communicate coding issues and opportunities for documentation improvement.
• Maintain 95% coding accuracy and 95% APC assignment accuracy; meet productivity standards.
• Track continuing education credits to maintain professional credentials.
• Attend Datavant Health sponsored education meetings and trainings.
• Communicate with staff regarding clinical and reimbursement issues.
• Operate professionally, efficiently and collaboratively.
• Adhere to AHIMA code of ethics and maintain customer-service focus.
• Handle high complexity of work and strong organizational skills.
