Job summary

Datavant is seeking experienced outpatient coders to join our remote team. The role emphasizes high accuracy, ED and SDS/OBS coding, with CCS/AHIMA or AAPC credentials preferred. EPIC and 3M/Solventum experience highly valued, and a flexible, remote schedule enables work from your home office.

Ideal applicants will have 2+ years in outpatient coding across SDS/OBS, ED, and related procedures, with strong attention to detail and commitment to ongoing education.

Qualifications

• Review medical records and assign accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Sequence codes correctly according to documentation.
• Determine discharge dispositions from records.
• Abstract and enter coded data for hospital statistics.
• Communicate coding issues to relevant staff for resolution.
• Maintain 95% coding and APC accuracy; meet productivity targets.
• Track continuing education credits to maintain credentials.
• Participate in Datavant Health sponsored education sessions.
• Adhere to AHIMA/AC coding ethics and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records and assign accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Assign and sequence codes based on medical record documentation.
• Assign the appropriate discharge disposition.
• Abstract and enter the coded data for hospital statistical and reporting requirements.
• Communicate documentation improvement opportunities and coding issues to appropriate personnel for follow up and resolution.
• Maintain a 95% coding accuracy rate and a 95% accuracy rate for APC assignment and meet site-designated productivity standards.
• Be responsible for tracking continuing education credits to maintain professional credentials.
• Attend Datavant Health sponsored education meetings/in-services.
• Demonstrate initiative and judgment in the performance of job responsibilities.
• Communicate with co-workers, management, and hospital staff regarding clinical and reimbursement issues.
• Function in a professional, efficient, and positive manner.
• Adhere to the American Health Information Management Association’s code of ethics.
