Job summary

Optum is seeking a Medical Coder to provide accurate diagnostic and procedure coding for outpatient services. You will perform coding and auditing duties to support data integrity and claims processing across the health system.

The role features full-time hours (40/wk), with the option to telecommute from anywhere in the U.S. A professional coder certification and experience in multiple specialties are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC (CPC-A, RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CPC, COC, CPC-P, CCS) maintained annually.
• 2+ years in PC Windows environment including MS Excel and EMR systems.
• 2+ years of ICD-10 and CPT coding experience.
• 2+ years of multi-specialty surgical coding experience.

Responsibilities

• Assign accurate diagnostic and procedure codes per clinical documentation and official guidelines for outpatient hospital professional accounts.
• Assign CPT and ICD-10 codes to Nephrology services.
• Monitor work queues to ensure timely charging/coding of records.
• Generate coding queries for clarification of physician documentation as needed.
• Stay updated on coding conventions and updates.
• Manage workload and work efficiently under pressure with minimal supervision.
