Job summary

UnitedHealth Group's Optum division is seeking an Evaluation & Management Medical Coder to provide coding and auditing services to providers. This role translates diagnoses and procedures into CPT/HCPCS codes and communicates guidelines by phone and email to provider offices.

The position is full-time with hours 8:00 AM–4:00 PM CST, occasional overtime, and virtual training from home. Telecommuting is available nationwide within the U.S.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED.
• Professional coder certification (CPC, COC, CPC-P, CCS) with AHIMA/AAPC credentialing to be maintained annually.
• Medical coding or auditing experience in the past year.
• 2+ years of experience with E&M medical coding.
• 2+ years of experience interacting with physicians in a medical setting (coding, billing or claims processing).
• 2+ years of high-volume telephonic experience.
• 2+ years of experience working with EMR (Electronic Medical Record).
• Intermediate proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Educational outreach via phone and email to providers on coding and documentation guidelines.
• Mainly perform provider educational outreach (80-90%) via phone/email.
• Audit outpatient claims to validate services, codes, modifiers, and units; provide written feedback per industry standards.
