Job summary

Cart.com is hiring for a Merchant of Record Accountant to own MoR accounting and operations for multiple brands. You will ensure accurate payment processing, settlements, tax compliance, and financial reporting with a focus on controls and risk management.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve payment issues, support month-end close, and maintain robust reconciliations and documentation in a fast-paced ecommerce environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in accounting/finance.
• 3–7 years of payments operations, merchant services, accounting, finance, or related field in ecommerce/technology-enabled services.
• Strong understanding of payment processing, settlements, merchant accounts, and financial controls.
• Hands-on experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close support.
• Advanced Excel skills; experience with SQL and reporting/analytics tools.
• Experience with MoR models or MoR vendors/platforms preferred.
• Experience with payment platforms (Stripe, Braintree, PayPal) preferred.
• Familiarity with tax automation (Avalara, TaxJar) or similar systems.

Responsibilities

• Own the accounting and operational oversight of MoR activities across supported brands.
• Monitor and resolve urgent payment exceptions, including settlement failures, holds, chargebacks, and refunds.
• Maintain rigorous transaction-level review processes to minimize errors and revenue leakage.
• Serve as the primary liaison for payment processing, settlements, reconciliations, tax compliance, and MoR reporting.
• Perform and oversee reconciliations between payment platforms, banking activity, systems, and GL.
• Support month-end close activities including journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Ensure accurate sales tax collection, remittance, and reporting across jurisdictions.
• Manage tax configurations and coordinate with partners to maintain compliance.
• Support audits and regulatory inquiries related to MoR activities.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Act with urgency while maintaining compliance, risk management, and financial controls.
