Cart.com in the United States is seeking a Merchant of Record Accountant to own MoR accounting operations across brands. You will ensure integrity of payment processing, settlements, tax compliance and financial reconciliations while maintaining strong controls in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires meticulous attention to detail, experience with reconciliations, Excel and SQL, and the ability to scale processes as Cart.com grows, with opportunities in a remote, nationwide team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
• 3–7 years of payments operations, merchant services, accounting, or related field within e-commerce, SaaS, digital goods, marketplace, or technology-enabled services.
• Strong understanding of payment processing, settlements, merchant accounts, and financial controls.
• Hands-on experience preparing reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close support.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience analyzing large datasets; working knowledge of SQL and reporting tools.

Responsibilities

• Own the accounting and operational oversight of Merchant of Record activities across supported brands.
• Review, validate, and approve high-value transactions and settlements per thresholds and controls.
• Monitor and resolve payment exceptions, including settlement failures, holds, chargebacks, and refunds.
• Maintain rigorous transaction-level review processes to minimize errors and revenue leakage.
• Serve as primary liaison for payment processing, settlements, reconciliations, tax compliance, and financial reporting for MoR operations.
• Perform reconciliations between payment platforms, banking activity, operational systems, and the general ledger.
• Assist month-end close activities, including journal entries and reporting.
• Continuously improve control processes and identify automation opportunities.
• Ensure accurate sales tax collection, remittance, and reporting across jurisdictions.
• Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and playbooks to support scalability.
