U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking MRTs (Coder) to classify medical data from patient health records and assign ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT codes.

This role requires strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and health records within a hospital or clinic setting. The position emphasizes documentation improvement, coder education, and collaboration with clinical staff to ensure accurate coding and appropriate reimbursement.

Formación

• One year of creditable experience in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical coding and health record structure.
• Associates degree with health information focus or completion of AHIMA/AAPC program with certification eligibility.
• Alternative combinations of education and experience acceptable per standards.
• Certification options: AHIMA or AAPC CIC/CCDS etc.

Responsabilidades

• Review clinical documentation for code accuracy and completeness.
• Educate clinical staff on documentation impact on coding and billing.
• Collaborate with physicians and staff to resolve documentation gaps.
• Ensure documentation supports selected codes with high specificity.
• Utilize EHR and CDI tools to improve data quality and reporting.
