Job summary

The American Red Cross seeks a highly experienced Medical Director to lead Therapeutic and Cellular Solutions and a Regional Medical Director across transfusion medicine programs. You will drive clinical strategy for regulated cellular therapies, collaborate with leadership to expand services, and oversee regulatory compliance while mentoring teams in a remote-capable role.

Qualifications

• MD/DO with Board Certification in Transfusion Medicine or Hematology/Oncology.
• Preference for 5+ years in Cell Therapy and HSCT, negotiable.
• Experience with FACT accreditation and AABB Standards.
• Knowledge of FDA regulations governing human cells, tissues, and cellular and tissue-based products (HCT/Ps).
• Leadership in program development with knowledge of cellular therapy regulations and accreditation.
• Ability to lead strategic growth and manage multidisciplinary teams while complying with FACT, CLIA, and FDA standards.
• Experience leading investigator-initiated clinical trials or translational research in cellular immunotherapy is of interest but not required.

Responsibilities

• Direct medical strategy and operations for regulated cellular therapies, including policy development for collection, storage, and infusion.
• Partner with executive leadership to expand collection footprints and optimize production of CAR-T starting materials.
• Contribute to expansion of cellular services through outreach, partnerships, new programs, and support of sales teams.
• Serve as medical liaison for biotech partners, advising on donor eligibility, product specs, and trials.
• Provide medical oversight for transfer of client protocols from research to clinical-grade production.
• Investigate and resolve donor/recipient concerns, transfusion issues, and service complaints with leadership notification.
• Provide medical consultation in transfusion medicine, blood banking, and patient services to hospital clients.
• Oversee medical aspects of donor management, recipient adverse reactions, and product investigations.
• Provide CLIA laboratory director oversight for a regional immunohematology reference laboratory, as applicable.
• Contribute to policy development related to donor eligibility, component quality, and transfusion practices.
• Deliver continuing medical education to internal and external audiences.
