Job summary

Datavant is seeking an experienced outpatient coder to join our remote team. The role emphasizes high accuracy in diagnoses and procedure coding, with a focus on observation, injections/infusions, and same-day surgery.

You will collaborate with hospital staff and management to ensure compliant coding and timely reporting. You will maintain credentialed expertise through education credits and participate in Datavant Health education sessions, all while upholding professional standards and

Qualifications

• AHIMA or AAPC certified credentials required.
• 2+ years of coding experience in hospital or coding consulting.
• Proficiency with relevant coding specialties: Same Day Surgery, Observation, Injections/Infusions.
• Experience with E/M leveling and ancillary coding.
• Strong written and verbal communication; adept at remote work.
• Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.
• Annual HIPAA exams and testing required.
• Experience with encoding/abstracting software

Responsibilities

• Review records and assign accurate diagnoses and procedure codes.
• Sequence codes based on documentation.
• Determine discharge dispositions.
• Abstract and enter coded data for hospital reporting.
• Communicate coding issues for follow-up and resolution.
• Maintain 95% coding accuracy and APC assignment accuracy; meet productivity standards.
• Track continuing education credits for credentials.
• Attend Datavant Health sponsored sessions.
• Demonstrate initiative and judgement in duties.
• Communicate with staff on clinical and reimbursement issues.
• Operate professionally, efficiently, and flexibly.
• Adhere to AHIMA ethics.
