Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required; 2 years medical coding experience preferred.
• Associate degree in Health Information Technology or related field preferred.
• AHIMA/ABMS certifications (RHIA/RHIT/CCS) or CPC/CMC preferred.

Responsibilities

• Uses knowledge of coding systems to assign codes (ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS) from medical records.
• Reviews and resolves coding denials and communicates needed corrections.
• Abstracts data, performs system edits, and corrects errors.
• Responds to requests for coding information from internal/external sources.
• Consults with internal customers or vendors for clarification when documentation is incomplete.
• Other duties as assigned.
