Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a Medical Coder IV, Complex to analyze diverse medical documentation and assign accurate codes across specialties. This remote role supports our United Business Office Coding team.

You will review coding guidelines (ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS), resolve denials, and collaborate with providers to improve documentation. A minimum of three years of coding experience and RHIA/RHIT or CPC preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent with 3 years of medical coder experience.
• Associates degree in Health Information Technology or related field preferred.
• Additional coding experience in area of assignment preferred; equivalent education/experience.

Responsibilities

• Review codes from electronic charge capture and assign ICD-10-CM, E/M, CPT, HCPCS codes.
• Analyze and abstract data from medical records for accuracy.
• Respond to coding information requests from internal and external stakeholders.
• Review coding denials and provide feedback for correction.
• Communicate opportunities for documentation improvement to providers and leaders.
• Collaborate with internal customers and external vendors for clarity when documentation is incomplete.
• Perform system edit checks and correct errors.
• Other duties as assigned
