Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a Medical Coder IV, Complex to join our coding team in New York. This role specializes in in-depth abstraction and analysis of diverse medical documentation across multiple specialties, assigning accurate procedural terminology and medical codes per applicable rules.

Responsibilities include reviewing codes, resolving denials, abstracting data, and communicating coding issues to providers and leaders.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPSC is required.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy is required.
• AAHIP/CPC/CMC credentials are preferred.
• 3 years of experience as a Medical Coder or related role is expected.

Responsibilities

• Review codes and assign ICD-10-CM, E/M, CPT, HCPCS and modifiers according to coding guidelines.
• Review and resolve coding denials and provide feedback for corrections.
• Abstract data, review codes for accuracy and perform system edits as needed.
• Respond to coding information requests from various sources.
• Consult with internal customers and vendors for clarification when documentation is incomplete.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
