Job summary

UPMC Corporate Revenue Cycle is seeking a Coder II to join our Coding Department in a remote role. This position requires reviewing and coding diagnoses and procedures with ICD-10-CM and CPT, adhering to coding guidelines, and maintaining high accuracy and productivity levels.

The role supports ED and hospital coding practices, with training toward 95% accuracy within the first year and regular participation in department meetings.

Qualifications

• High School or GED equivalent.
• Two years of hospital coding experience.
• AHIMA or AACP-certified coding program.
• Outpatient: Pharmacology is taught on the job during training; pathophysiology not required.

Responsibilities

• Review coding for accuracy and completeness prior to submission to billing system utilizing ICD-10-CM, CPT and DSM IV codes.
• Adhere to department policies and participate in monthly coding meetings; pursue ongoing education.
• Code all diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT; ensure correct sequencing and DRG/APC/ASC assignment.
• Utilize hospital information systems (Medipac/SMS/Meditech), encoders and EMR; enter accurate data and correct errors.
• Identify incomplete documentation and formulate physician queries to obtain missing information.
• Refer problem accounts to appropriate coding or management personnel for resolution.
