Job summary

Nash UNC Health Care is seeking a qualified Medical Coder for remote, per diem work within the NGH Health Information Management team. The role focuses on assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT codes, ensuring documentation supports accurate reimbursement, and collaborating with CDI auditors.

Ideal candidates have an Associate degree in Health Information Technology, RHIT/RHIA/CCS credentials, and at least 1 year of healthcare coding experience. Familiarity with coding guidelines is essential.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Health Information Technology.
  • Graduate from Health Information Technology program.
  • RHIT, RHIA and/or CCS AHIMA approved.
  • 1 year of experience in Healthcare/Medical - Medical Coder.
  • Experience in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS.

Responsibilities

  • Assign ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure codes to IP and/or OP accounts; apply CPT codes to outpatient accounts.
  • Determine appropriate sequencing of codes based on coding guidelines.
  • Identify insufficient/incomplete documentation and query physicians.
  • Collaborate with CDI auditors to obtain clinical documentation supporting appropriate reimbursement.
  • Communicate with the business office to resolve billing-related coding issues.
  • Serve as a coding resource for hospital personnel.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
