Job summary

Duke Health is seeking a Medical Records Coder II to join our remote team supporting the Patient Revenue Management Organization. The role codes medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4, ensures accurate diagnoses and procedures for hospital and professional charges, and abstracts data for reimbursement.

As a certified coder, you will lead/coordinate work, assist training, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, DRG/APC assignments, and compliance standards across the health

Qualifications

  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC or HCS-D certification required or in process.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Experience with ICD-10-CM and CPT coding guidelines.
  • Familiar with DRG/APC reimbursement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in coding software and data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Code medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT conventions.
  • Review complex records and ensure accurate diagnoses and procedures.
  • Coordinate with staff and provide training as needed.
  • Abstract data for reimbursement purposes.
  • Educate physicians on coding practices.
  • Audit and ensure DRG/APC assignments are accurate.
