Job summary

UNC Health Care in North Carolina seeks a healthcare coder to capture data from medical records for reimbursement, statistics, research and benchmarking. You will work daily with the CDI Auditors as part of the Clinical Documentation Improvement Team (CDI) and support accurate documentation.

Requires RHIT/RHIA or CCS credentials, an associate degree in Health Information Technology or Nursing (LPN/RN), 3 years of healthcare coding experience, and ICD-9/ICD-10 proficiency.

Qualifications

• 3 years of experience in Healthcare/Medical Coding
• Experience in ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding
• RHIT, RHIA and/or CCS AHIMA approved credentials

Responsibilities

• Assigns ICD-9/ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure codes to IP and/or OP accounts; applies CPT codes to outpatient accounts
• Works with the CDI team and CDI auditors to obtain clinical documentation to support appropriate reimbursement
• Operates equipment and maintains work areas
• Acquires age-specific knowledge to provide appropriate service
• Participates in self-development
• Other duties as needed
