Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Master Network & Security Engineer to lead design, deployment, troubleshooting, and optimization of enterprise network-security infrastructure. The role focuses on Palo Alto NGFW environments, Panorama management, and high-availability architectures across US-time zones.

You will partner with SOC, infrastructure, cloud, and leadership teams to reduce risk and ensure highly available services.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; three extra years if Bachelor’s.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in network engineering, network security, firewall administration, or security infra operations.
• 6+ years of hands-on Palo Alto Networks firewall in production environments.
• Advanced operational experience with Palo Alto Panorama, multi-device policy management, templates, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
• Strong expertise in TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VPNs, and packet-level troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, deployment, and lifecycle management of Palo Alto NGFW environments running PAN-OS.
• Own centralized firewall management through Palo Alto Panorama including device groups, templates, upgrades, backups, and onboarding.
• Design and govern security policies using zero-trust, least-privilege, and risk-based principles.
• Configure and troubleshoot security zones, NAT, IPsec VPN, decryption, URL Filtering, Threat Prevention, and App‑ID policies.
• Lead network segmentation initiatives using security zones, VLANs, virtual routers, and application-based policies.
• Develop secure controls for traffic between users, servers, apps, management networks, cloud resources.
• Architect and test HA deployments (Active/Passive, Active/Active) and resolve HA failures.
• Plan HA failover testing, PAN-OS upgrades, disaster-recovery exercises, and maintenance.
