Job summary

Allstate Northern Ireland Limited is seeking a Managing Engineer (Software Development/Container Workloads) to lead a team of engineers, design reference architectures, and deliver reusable patterns that scale across the enterprise.

In this remote role you will partner with product, platform, and infrastructure teams to drive architecture decisions, code alongside peers as needed, and promote best practices for performance, security, and observability across distributed systems.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience building enterprise-scale applications and services.
• 2+ years of technical leadership or people management experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java and experience building distributed applications and services.
• Experience developing cloud-native applications in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with container technologies and Kubernetes-based deployments.
• Strong understanding of APIs, microservices, and service integration patterns.
• Experience with event-driven architectures, messaging platforms, or asynchronous processing frameworks.
• Understanding of distributed systems concepts including scalability, resiliency, fault tolerance, and performance optimization.
• Experience partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver technical solutions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence engineering decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers.
• Design and deliver reference architectures, sample applications, and reusable implementation patterns.
• Partner with product, platform, and infrastructure teams to address real-world engineering challenges.
• Provide technical leadership for architecture, design reviews, and implementation decisions.
• Promote engineering best practices related to scalability, resilience, security, and maintainability.
• Build understanding of platform dependencies (e.g., caching, messaging, networking, identity, observability).
• Drive adoption of reusable patterns and standards across engineering teams.
• Participate in coding, prototyping, and troubleshooting activities as needed.
• Manage staffing, prioritization, delivery planning, and team performance.
• Influence engineering standards and platform adoption across the organization.
