Job summary

Sigma Technologies is seeking an experienced Make Ready Designer to support overhead make-ready and joint-use design for electric and telecommunications utilities. This remote role focuses on field data, NESC clearances, pole conditions, and producing construction-ready design packages.

Requirements include 2+ years in make-ready or electric distribution design, CAD or MicroStation proficiency, and experience with pole loading and attachments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
• Minimum 2 years in make-ready engineering, joint-use design, or electric power distribution design (3+ years preferred).
• Proven experience in utility pole design, including NESC application, clearance analysis, and construction-ready design packages.
• Proficiency with CAD or MicroStation; experience with DDS, Katapult, O-Calc, or similar platforms preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete make-ready and overhead utility pole design work orders meeting quality, schedule, and budget expectations.
• Review and interpret field data, pole information, attachment details, and existing conditions.
• Evaluate joint-use attachments, NESC clearances, pole loading, and required modifications.
• Develop construction-ready make-ready designs including pole replacements, transfers, attachments, guying, and anchoring.
• Apply NESC requirements, utility construction standards, and client design criteria.
• Perform end-to-end make-ready and joint-use design and support related overhead distribution design as needed.
• Conduct permitting and easement research including pole ownership and rights of way.
• Collaborate with project teams to resolve design conflicts and field-data discrepancies.
• Use DDS, Katapult, O-Calc, PoleForeman, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, and related systems.
• Perform quality-control reviews to ensure deliverables are accurate and complete.
• Support additional project and design responsibilities as assigned.
