Job summary

Sigma Technologies is seeking an experienced Make Ready Designer to support overhead pole design, joint-use engineering, and distribution projects. The role focuses on evaluating pole conditions, applying NESC clearances, and developing construction-ready designs for utilities and telecommunications.

This remote opportunity requires experience with pole design platforms and the ability to interpret field data to resolve design conflicts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree or higher preferred
• Minimum 2 years experience in make-ready engineering, joint-use design, or electric power distribution design (3+ years preferred)
• Proven experience in utility pole design including NESC application, clearance analysis, pole loading concepts, and construction-ready packages
• Proficiency with CAD or MicroStation; experience with DDS, Katapult, O-Calc, or similar platforms preferred
• Strong knowledge of power distribution construction practices and ability to learn utility-specific systems
• Valid driver’s license, active auto insurance, and ability to pass background/drug/MVR screenings
• Authorization to work in the United States; willingness for occasional travel
• Ability to work a standard Monday–Friday schedule aligned to Eastern Time (adjustments as needed)

Responsibilities

• Complete make-ready and overhead pole design work orders meeting quality, schedule, and budget expectations
• Review field data, pole information, attachment details, and existing conditions
• Evaluate joint-use attachments, NESC clearances, pole loading, and modifications
• Develop construction-ready make-ready designs including pole replacements and attachments
• Apply NESC requirements and client design criteria
• Perform end-to-end make-ready design and support related overhead distribution work
• Conduct permitting and easement research for pole ownership and rights
• Collaborate with teams to resolve design conflicts and field discrepancies
• Use DDS, Katapult, O-Calc, PoleForeman, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS or related systems
• Perform quality-control reviews and support additional design responsibilities
