Job summary

CAI is seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer to join its IT team in a remote, full-time contract role. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in COBOL, JCL, NATURAL, and ADABAS, and will support multiple client projects across legacy mainframe systems.

Responsibilities include designing, coding, testing, and maintaining batch and online mainframe applications, troubleshooting production issues, and providing documentation and analysis to modernization efforts.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building enterprise mainframe apps using COBOL.
• 5+ years with JCL development and job scheduling.
• 3+ years with NATURAL/ADABAS.
• 5+ years using TSO/ISPF or similar tools.
• 3+ years with AFP, PAGEDEF, FORMDEF, OVERLAY.
• Advanced COBOL/JCL/NATURAL expertise.
• Knowledge of ADABAS database architecture and file structures.
• Experience maintaining large legacy mainframe systems.
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging for batch and online apps.
• Experience building system integrations and data feeds.

Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance, and maintain COBOL, NATURAL, and JCL programs.
• Work on legacy mainframe apps and integration with client systems.
• Provide code walkthroughs, technical analysis, and docs for modernization.
• Design, code, test, and maintain batch and online mainframe apps.
• Troubleshoot production issues, job failures, and abends; root-cause analysis.
• Analyze and support ADABAS databases and file structures.
• Develop data feeds, interfaces, and data transfers between systems.
• Participate in design reviews, planning sessions, and code reviews.
• Create and maintain technical documentation (specs, job flows, diagrams).
• Support system testing, UAT, and production deployments.
