Job summary

CAI is seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer to join our IT team as a full-time, remote contractor. The role focuses on COBOL, NATURAL, JCL, and ADABAS, supporting multiple client projects and modernization efforts.

You will analyze, design, code, test, and deploy batch and online mainframe applications, troubleshoot production issues, and create comprehensive technical documentation. Remote work flexibility is available.

Qualifications

5+ years of experience developing mainframe applications using COBOL.
5+ years of experience with JCL development and job scheduling.
3+ years of NATURAL/ADABAS experience.
5+ years of experience using TSO/ISPF or similar mainframe editing tools.
3+ years of AFP, PAGEDEF, FORMDEF, and OVERLAY technologies.

Responsibilities

Develop, enhance, and maintain COBOL, NATURAL, and JCL programs for multiple client projects.
Work on legacy mainframe applications and integration with taxation and client systems.
Analyze existing mainframe apps and provide code walkthroughs and documentation for modernization.
Design, code, test, implement, and maintain batch and online mainframe apps.
Troubleshoot production issues, job failures, and abends; perform root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Analyze and support ADABAS databases, file structures, and data access methods.
Develop and maintain data feeds, interfaces, and integration processes between legacy and modern platforms.
Participate in system design reviews, planning sessions, and code reviews.
Create and maintain technical documentation including specs, job flows, and data definitions.
Support system testing, integration testing, UAT, and deployments.
