Job summary

Starr is seeking a Loss Control Consultant to perform on-site risk assessments for high-hazard industries and to support underwriting with survey reports and risk guidance. This role emphasizes independent work, strong communication, and collaboration with underwriters and managers.

Remote position with regional travel (about 25% overnight) and a company car provided. A strong engineering background in Oil/Petrochemical, Midstream, or Chemical sectors is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
• 10+ years as an engineer in Oil/Petrochemical, Midstream or Chemical sectors.
• PSM knowledge per 29 CFR 1910.119 is required.
• Familiarity with loss prevention codes (NFPA, FM, API, ASME).
• Ability to work independently and with underwriters/managers to handle multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site loss control surveys for high-hazard industries (Oil/Petrochemical, Chemical, Power Generation, etc.).
• Evaluate sprinkler systems, building construction and fire alarm plans; provide guidance to clients.
• Prepare and write survey reports; support underwriting discussions and risk quality decisions.
• Engage with clients through meetings and account management activities.
• Travel regionally with about 25% overnight stays; remote work within reasonable distance to office; company car provided.
