Guardian Life is seeking an Underwriting Large Case Specialist to adjudicate the most complex individual life cases in a fully remote United States-based role. You will act as a senior technical expert within Life Underwriting for Financial Protection and Retirement Solutions, guiding peers on modern underwriting tools and complex financial analyses.

You will collaborate with field partners and home office teams to ensure optimal offers within authority, protect mortality, and uphold regulatory

Qualifications

• 15–20 years of individual life underwriting experience.
• Proven track record handling large, complex cases for high-net-worth applicants.
• Industry education (FALU, FLMI, etc.).
• Specialized depth in individual life underwriting, incl. complex/high-dollar cases.
• Experience with reinsurance frameworks and treaty language.
• Expertise reviewing complex financial statements and tax returns.
• Familiarity with emerging technologies (EHR, GenAI, wearables).
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills; adaptable to precedent.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the large-case underwriting and financial specialist for the most complex and high-value cases.
• Provide expert judgment on escalated cases and guide staff and management.
• Communicate with field partners and home office to gather information and convey decisions.
• Build partnerships with distribution leaders to ensure alignment and service excellence.
• Apply deep reinsurance expertise to evaluate treaty requirements and coordinate with underwriters as needed.
• Be a trusted underwriting partner to leadership, delivering guidance and support.
• Maintain deep knowledge of underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Champion adoption of modern underwriting tools and platforms.
• Mentor underwriters in advanced financial underwriting.
• Monitor industry trends to inform prudent business decisions.
