Job summary

ABB Inc. is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to lead engineering activities for substation protection and automation systems. The role emphasizes technical leadership, design authority, and cost‑effective project execution, with a preference for candidates in Northern California and full‑remote work.

Requirements include a BSEE, 5+ years in P&C projects, ability to read electrical diagrams, and a CA PE license. US work authorization is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master's Degree preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in protection & control projects for utility customers.
• Ability to read, correctly interpret, and apply electrical one‑lines, schematics, and instruction manuals.
• PE License in California required.
• Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.

Responsibilities

• Lead and act as the technical lead for all engineering activities in assignments.
• Ensure that activities related to all engineering disciplines are executed efficiently and cost‑effectively.
• Act as design authority for a particular engineering discipline and complete the corresponding engineering assignments.
• Lead and support engineering design activities for substation protection & control/automation systems.
• Develop engineering documentation and perform analyses to support accurate, standards‑compliant system designs.
• Manage project materials, construction design packages, and technical issue resolution with ongoing communication to project teams.
• Ensure adherence to safety practices, industry standards, and company/customer requirements while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

Master's Degree preferred
