Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks a Software Testing Principal (MUMPS) for a remote, U.S.-based role supporting Veterans Affairs healthcare applications.

Lead testing efforts across HL7/FHIR interfaces, VistA/FileMan, and legacy systems; develop test plans, execute manual and automated tests, mentor junior testers, and drive quality in a regulated government environment. Requires U.S. Citizenship and Public Trust clearance and remote-work discipline.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting healthcare or government environments.
• Experience testing enterprise clinical/healthcare applications.
• Experience with MUMPS and InterSystems Cache.
• Experience validating healthcare workflows and system functionality.
• Experience developing detailed test plans, scenarios, scripts, and cases.
• Experience performing functional, regression, integration, and UAT testing.
• Understanding SDLC and testing methodologies.
• Experience validating database updates and data integrity.
• Ability to analyze system logs, application errors, and test results to identify root causes.
• Knowledge of HL7, FHIR, HIPAA EDI transactions.
• Experience with defect tracking and test management tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, HP ALM, and TestRail.
• Experience leading testing efforts and mentoring juniors.
• Experience supporting production troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Support testing and quality assurance activities for mission-critical healthcare applications operating in a MUMPS/InterSystems Cache environment.
• Support modernization efforts, system enhancements, healthcare interoperability initiatives, and production support activities associated with legacy healthcare systems.
• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, test scripts, and test procedures for healthcare applications operating in MUMPS/InterSystems Cache environments.
• Validate software enhancements, maintenance releases, defect corrections, and system upgrades.
• Support functional, integration, regression, user acceptance, system, and end-to-end testing activities.
• Verify data integrity across legacy healthcare applications, databases, interfaces, and external systems.
• Test healthcare interoperability transactions utilizing HL7, FHIR, EDIs, and related industry standards.
• Participate in Beta/IOC testing with healthcare facilities and end users, documenting results and coordinating issue resolution.
• Analyze and troubleshoot software defects, integration failures, and production incidents.
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, product owners, and end users to validate requirements and test objectives.
• Develop test data and test environments supporting healthcare workflows and business processes.
• Execute manual and automated testing activities where applicable.
• Track, document, and communicate testing metrics, defects, risks, and status reports.
• Validate integrations involving VistA, FileMan, healthcare messaging platforms, and external partner systems.
• Support root cause analysis and verification of software fixes.
• Review system requirements and technical specifications to ensure testability and complete coverage.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of testing processes, procedures, and quality standards.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance on testing strategies for healthcare and government systems.
