Job summary

Veterans Health Administration is seeking an experienced Lead Medical Records Technician (Coder-Inpatient) to serve as a subject matter expert on inpatient coding guidelines, policies, and regulatory requirements. This remote role supports the Department of Veterans Affairs across the United States.

The incumbent will supervise the inpatient coding team, conduct regular audits, and develop training materials to ensure accurate documentation and billing, collaborating with providers and staff

Qualifications

• Experience auditing inpatient coding for ICD-10-CM/PCS and MS-DRG/APR-DRG for inpatient records.
• Ability to train and orient new coding staff and students on coding and EHR usage.
• Knowledge of VA coding policies, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assign and review ICD-10-CM/PCS codes and MS-DRGs for inpatient records.
• Conduct regular inpatient coding audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Coordinate with providers and staff to resolve coding discrepancies and improve documentation.
• Develop and present ongoing coding training materials and curricula.
