Job summary

The Junior Staff Accountant at American Rivers provides essential support to the Finance & Accounting team, ensuring GAAP compliance and timely recording of transactions. You will handle AP, vendor file maintenance, AR, GL reconciliations, and compliance activities including 1099 reporting and grant-related reconciliations.

This role is remote and supports multiple states. A bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field is preferred; strong detail orientation, organization, and communication

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is desired.
• Internship or relevant coursework experience is a plus.
• Ability to work remotely with strong self-management.

Responsibilities

• Process vendor invoices with proper approvals and coding.
• Maintain vendor files (W-9s, contracts, tax IDs) and ensure data accuracy.
• Record and reconcile grant reimbursements, donor contributions, and other receivables.
• Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end close.
• Support 1099 reporting and regulatory compliance.
• Assist with audits and provide schedules/reconciliations as needed.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and IRS/OMB regulations.
