Job summary

American Rivers is seeking a Junior Staff Accountant to support GAAP-compliant accounting and organizational guidelines. You will help record and reconcile transactions, process vendor invoices, manage vendor data, and handle grant reimbursements in a remote environment.

You will contribute to accounts payable/receivable, general ledger closings, and regulatory compliance, while supporting audits and grant-related reconciliations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (internship or coursework a plus).
• Remote work ability and self-motivation.
• Strong organization and attention to detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Able to collaborate with geographically dispersed colleagues.
• Reliable high-speed internet and a dedicated home workspace.

Responsibilities

• Accounts Payable: process vendor invoices with proper approvals and coding.
• Vendor file maintenance and compliance with internal controls and policies.
• Accounts Receivable: record grant reimbursements, issue invoices, track receivables.
• General Ledger: prepare journal entries and support month/year-end closes.
• Compliance: 1099 reporting and IRS/regulatory requirements.
• Audit/support: assist with audits and reconcile schedules for auditors.
• Regulatory: ensure GAAP compliance and relevant regulations are followed.
