Job summary

UW Medicine IT Services is seeking a Student Assistant – IT Services Security to support information security operations. The role involves monitoring queues, triaging reports, and assisting with phishing campaigns and security awareness materials.

The ideal candidate is a current UW student with interest in information security, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently with some supervision. This is a 100% remote, day-shift opportunity.

Qualifications

• Must be a current student attending the University of Washington.
• Experience in computer and/or network security.
• Familiarity with Unix commands and/or log analysis.
• Familiarity with data and/or log analysis.
• Proficiency using MS Office and/or SharePoint.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to take direction while also working with minimal supervision.
• A strong desire to learn and contribute.

Responsibilities

• Support information security operations and initiatives within the team.
• Help Security Analysts and Engineers by tracking threats and conducting reviews.
• Monitor email tracking queues for the Information Security team.
• Monitor ticket queues and triage incoming security reports/tickets.
• Provide Tier 1 security-related customer service via email and phone.
• Assign tickets to full-time staff when needed.
• Perform level 1 security reviews on systems under consideration or upgrade.
• Assist with phishing campaigns to educate employees.
