Job summary

Sonoran Desert Institute is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to join the Curriculum Team in producing engaging online courses for higher education. You will work with subject matter experts, QA staff, and other designers to design, update, and assess course materials and multimedia resources.

The role focuses on new course design, updates, content development, and assessment creation. Candidates should have a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instructional Design or related training

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instructional Design or related field.
• Certificate or training in instructional design or eLearning (720 clock hours) if degree is not in the field.
• Minimum three years of professional instructional design experience.
• Minimum one year of instructional design experience at a higher education institution.
• Advanced knowledge of adult learning principles and distance instruction.
• Practical experience with LMS and course-authoring software.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills; ability to meet deadlines.
• Some travel required (up to 10%).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with subject matter experts to analyze learning needs and objectives.
• Create course and program documentation (blueprints, maps, plans).
• Identify and secure digital textbooks and other resources.
• Storyboard and script multimedia resources.
• Apply instructional design principles and accessibility standards.
• Develop engaging online materials with assessments and activities.
• Develop course shells and pages in the LMS (Canvas) using authoring tools.
• Assist with Academic Quality Assurance processes.
• Stay current with trends in instructional design and distance education.
• Troubleshoot faculty and student course access issues.
• Participate in team meetings and professional development.
• Develop and publish standard operating procedures for the department.
