Sonoran Desert Institute seeks an experienced Instructional Designer to join our curriculum team. You will help create engaging online courses, collaborate with subject matter experts, and ensure alignment with learning objectives and accessibility standards.

You will design course shells in Canvas, source external media, and support QA processes while staying current with instructional design trends. Some travel may be required; remote work is limited to specified states.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instructional Design or related subject.
• Certificate or formal training in instructional design, eLearning, or related subject equivalent to 16-credit hours (720 clock hours).
• Minimum three years of professional experience in instructional design.
• Minimum one year of instructional design experience at a higher education institution.
• Advanced knowledge of adult learning principles and distance instruction.
• Practical experience with learning management systems and course-authoring software.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
• Some travel required (up to 10%).

Responsabilités

• Collaborate with subject matter experts to analyze learning needs and identify objectives for courses.
• Apply instructional design principles and accessibility standards to create student-centered content.
• Design and develop engaging online course materials, including assessments and discussions.
• Develop course shells and modules in the LMS (Canvas) using native tools, CidiLabs, Design Plus, Canva.
• Source and secure external media citations and resources.
• Support the Academic Quality Assurance process for accuracy and alignment.
• Stay current with trends in instructional design and distance education.
• Troubleshoot faculty and student course access and functionality issues.
• Participate in team meetings and professional development to enhance skills.
• Collaborate to develop SOPs for departmental consistency.
