Job summary

Sonoran Desert Institute is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to join our Curriculum Team in a remote capacity limited to certain states. You will design, update, and assess online courses, working with subject matter experts and QA staff to deliver high-quality online education for higher education students.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instructional Design or related field.
• Certificate or formal training in instructional design, eLearning, or related subject, at least equivalent to 16-credit hours (720 clock hours).
• Minimum three years of professional experience in instructional design.
• Minimum of one year of professional instructional design experience at a higher education institution.
• Advanced knowledge of adult learning principles and distance instruction.
• Practical experience with learning management systems and course-authoring software.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
• Some travel required (up to 10%)

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with subject matter experts to analyze learning needs and identify objectives for new and revised distance learning courses.
• Apply instructional design principles and accessibility standards to create student-centered content.
• Design and develop engaging online course materials and assessments.
• Develop course shells, syllabi, home pages, modules, and lessons in Canvas.
• Source and secure digital textbooks and resources.
• Assist with Academic Quality Assurance processes to ensure alignment with objectives.
• Stay current with trends in instructional design and distance education.
• Troubleshoot faculty and student course access and functionality.
• Participate in team meetings and professional development.
• Collaborate to develop standard operating procedures for the Curriculum Staff
