Virtua Health is seeking a hospital coding specialist to review and abstract medical records, ensuring accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding for Inpatient, Observation, Outpatient Surgery, and ED records. You will apply AHA, AHIMA, and UHDDS rules to assign DRGs and maintain data integrity.

Role requires at least two years of inpatient coding, strong attention to detail, and experience with an electronic health record system. Remote options are available with part-time hours in the US.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years inpatient records coding experience or equivalent.
• Ability to perform functions in a Microsoft Windows environment.
• Detail oriented and high accuracy in tasks.
• Ability to make sound decisions.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Previous experience with an electronic health record system preferred.

Responsabilités

• Accurately reviews each record and codes using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT-4 and encoder.
• Records coded include Inpatient, Observation, Outpatient Surgery, Invasive Outpatients, and Emergency Department.
• Sequences principal diagnosis and principal procedures per UHDDS definitions.
• Uses DRG knowledge to validate assignments.
• Adheres to federal/state regulations and guidelines for data elements.
• Ensures data abstraction for multiple record types as required.
• Verifies data into the computer system per procedures.
• Participates in maintaining departmental competencies and performance improvement.
