Job summary

Pena4 Inc is seeking a Medical Coder (Inpatient) for a fully remote, W2 full-time position in New York, NY. The role requires 5+ years of IP PCS coding experience and CCS certification. Immediate start with a standard Monday–Friday schedule and day shifts.

EPIC/PowerChart/3M/Cerner experience is preferred. Responsibilities include assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS codes, ensuring accurate DRG/severity of illness, and collaborating with CDI and billing teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years of HIM and inpatient facility coding experience

Responsibilities

• Review inpatient medical records to determine principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures
• Assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for diagnoses and procedures
• Ensure documentation supports MS-DRG assignment, SOI and ROM
• Strive to obtain optimal DRG assignments with system assistance
• Query providers for clarification when documentation is incomplete or unclear
• Meet productivity benchmarks: code at least 2 inpatient charts per hour
• Maintain coding accuracy and DRG accuracy rate of 95% or above
• Collaborate with CDI, compliance and billing teams to resolve coding issues
• Participate in internal and external audits and education initiatives
• Work as a team to meet department and client goals
