Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System seeks a Coding Specialist for inpatient records. This remote role requires RHIT/RHIA/CCA/CCS/CIC credentials and strong ICD-10-CM/PCS coding knowledge to review documentation and assign codes and DRGs for inpatient care, ensuring accurate billing and compliant reporting.

The ideal candidate has five years of inpatient coding experience, excellent communication, and familiarity with coding guidelines.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of inpatient hospital coding experience.
• Experience coding in a level 1 trauma facility or academic teaching facility preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records to assign ICD-10 codes for inpatient cases.
• Ensure accurate diagnoses, procedures and appropriate reimbursement.
• Query physicians when documentation is insufficient for coding.
• Stay current with coding guidelines and reimbursement rules.
• Assign ICD-10 codes and DRGs to inpatient records.
• Maintain 92–95% accuracy in ICD-10 and DRG assignments.
