Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System is seeking an experienced Coding Specialist to review inpatient records, assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes, and ensure data completeness for billing and research. Qualifications

• Five (5) years of inpatient hospital coding experience required.
• RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, or CIC certification required.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and PCS coding.
• Analytical skills to interpret data in health records and assign codes.
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• Proficient in Windows-based application environments.

Responsibilities

• Reviews medical record documentation to identify diagnoses/procedures needing code assignment for inpatient records and codes using ICD-10 conventions for reimbursement and compliance.
• Reviews records to ensure diagnosis/procedure specificity and appropriate reimbursement.
• Queries physicians when documentation is insufficient or unclear for coding.
• Keeps abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting guidelines with manager input.
• Assigns ICD-10 codes and DRGs to inpatient records.
• Maintains 92–95% accuracy in ICD-10/DRG assignments and meets productivity standards.
• Adheres to AHIMA Standards and official coding guidelines.
• Ensures safe care and compliance with MH policies, budget, and quality service.
• Promotes professional growth and mentoring within the department.
• Demonstrates compassionate, personalized care aligned with MH service standards.
• Other duties as assigned.
