Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System is seeking an experienced Coding Specialist to review inpatient records, assign accurate ICD-10/DRG codes, and ensure compliance with federal/state regulations. Requires RHIT/RHIA/CCA/CCS/CIC certifications and 5+ years inpatient coding in a hospital setting.

Remote role with urgent need to meet state eligibility requirements. Strong communication, analytical, and decision-making skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associates degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred.
• RHIT/RHIA/CCA/CCS/CIC certifications required from AHIMA or AAPC.

Responsibilities

• Reviews medical record documentation to identify diagnoses/procedures requiring code assignment for inpatient records using ICD-10 coding conventions for reimbursement, research, and compliance.
• Reviews records to ensure specificity of diagnoses, procedures and appropriate reimbursement for hospital and professional charges.
• Queries physicians when codes are not straightforward or documentation is insufficient for coding.
• Keeps up with coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting guidelines; escalates concerns to manager.
• Assigns ICD-10 codes and DRGs to inpatient records, maintaining high accuracy and productivity while minimizing errors.
• Maintains 92% to 95% accuracy in ICD-10 and DRG assignments and adheres to ethical coding standards; complies with AHIMA guidelines.
• Ensures safe care and adheres to Memorial Hermann policies; supports ongoing education and departmental goals.
• Models Memorial Hermann's service standards by delivering compassionate, personalized and efficient experiences.
