Job summary

UI Health in Chicago seeks an experienced Inpatient Reimbursement Coding Specialist to join Health Information Management. You will apply ICD-10-CM/PCS codes and POA indicators to inpatient accounts, ensuring accurate DRG/APR-DRG assignment and documentation alignment.

Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Specialists to resolve documentation gaps, utilize CAC software for coding, and help reduce denials. AHIMA/APAC certs and 1 year experience required; remote work options available.

Qualifications

• AHIMA or AAPC certification as CCS/CCS-P or RHIT/RHIA or CPC/COC.
• Minimum 1 year of reimbursement coding experience.
• Knowledge of inpatient coding guidelines and DRG/APR-DRG processes.

Responsibilities

• Sequence and assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for complex inpatient visits.
• Interpret documentation to determine principal diagnosis and POA indicators.
• Assign DRG and APR-DRG per coding guidelines.
• Write physician queries and collaborate with CDI to resolve documentation gaps.
• Use CAC software to review records and select codes for billing.
• Analyze and resolve coding denials with insurers and patients.
• Follow ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS guidelines and stay updated on changes.
