Job summary

UI Health is seeking an experienced Inpatient Reimbursement Coding Specialist to join our Health Information Management team. This role applies ICD-10-CM/PCS codes and POA indicators for inpatient hospital accounts and collaborates with a CDS to ensure accurate documentation and coding on accounts.

Responsibilities include encoding complex inpatient cases, DRG/APR-DRG assignment, and resolving coding denials while following ICD-10 guidelines; remote work option available within Illinois

Qualifications

• Hold one of the following certifications: CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA, CPC or COC, from AHIMA or AAPC.
• Minimum of 1 year of work experience in reimbursement coding or similar role.

Responsibilities

• Sequence and assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for complex inpatient visits following coding guidelines.
• Interpret medical documentation to determine principal diagnosis and procedures and assign POA indicators.
• Assign DRG/APR-DRG while adhering to sequencing guidelines.
• Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement to clarify documentation before final codes.
• Use CAC software to review documentation and select codes for billing and reporting.
• Analyze and resolve coding denials from insurers and patient accounts.
• Follow internal workflows to resolve documentation errors before coding.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS guidelines and regulatory changes.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient health information.
• Perform related duties and participate in special projects.
