Job summary

Tufts Medicine seeks a part-time Inpatient Coder to review medical records and assign ICD-10-CM and PCS codes for inpatient admissions. You will collaborate with physicians and staff, resolve missing information, and support audits to ensure accurate documentation and billing.

The role emphasizes timely coding within Epic, adherence to coding guidelines, and participation in process improvement. Strong communication, Excel skills, and a minimum of 3 years coding experience are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CCS, CIC, RHIA or RHIT certification required.
• At least 3 years ICD-10-CM and PCS coding experience.
• EMR experience required.

Responsibilities

• Verifies and abstracts clinical data from patient records.
• Performs chart audits before coding to ensure complete documentation.
• Assigns ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes from medical records.
• Reviews audit reports and denial reports with leadership.
• Works with physicians to correct discrepancies in coding and documentation.
• Ensures timely submission of accounts.
• Responds to coding questions from staff.
